Good afternoon friends,
We are really excited about next week and looking forward to our Academy 42 community gathering together for the first time on Monday, January 23rd!
You may be wondering who else is joining you for this journey. Below is a link to a document with everyone’s picture and brief bio. It is easy to navigate. Click on any of the names on the directory list and then “scroll” left or right by pressing the arrow on each page. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fd2p1jwexhu3iy0/AABFmudZiHW11knbRGSP7N2ja?dl=0
As you're finishing up with preparations, let me remind you of a few things:
Meet us in Phifer Hall for registration and room assignment. Orientation begins at 5:00 CST and dinner is at 6. There will be orange directional signs beginning with one at the entrance to camp from Hwy 195.
Weather in north Alabama is usually beautiful but somewhat unpredictable in January. Most sleeping rooms have individual control for heat/air conditioning. You will be walking outdoors from building to building throughout the day and evening. I usually pack a flashlight, warm coat and comfortable casual clothing. Watch weather for Nauvoo, AL. Camp McDowell is a beautiful place. There is much to explore and plenty of opportunity for you to get out for a walk and to enjoy God’s gift to us.
Pillows, bedding, extra blankets and towels are provided.
Remember to pack any medications you need.
Simple snacks, fresh fruit, ice water, coffee and assorted hot tea are provided throughout the week in the Doug Carpenter Hall where we meet for lectures and meals. If you want to bring some of your own things, you will find a brew style coffee maker (with basic supplies), microwave and refrigerator on the main level of each cabin.
The staff has been notified of any special dietary needs you have told us about. They are wonderful to work with and will do their best to provide you with options should you not be able to eat something from the main food line.
It is not required that you bring the recommended reading books with you although you may want to if space is not an issue.
If faculty use power point during their teaching presentations, we will make electronic copies available to you after the week is over.
We are in relatively close quarters all week and ask that you be sensitive about not using strong perfumes, colognes, etc.
We will adhere to any Covid-19 protocol that may seem necessary during each session. If you have them, bring disposable masks and test kits for your personal use.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email.

Can't wait to meet new friends and see old friends again!
Safe travels!
